Weekly Handicap Sleeper Notes: 27th, 28th & 30th September
Time for the latest set of Handicap Sleeper Notes from the weekend action that has just slid into the form book…
Five horses for you to stick in your notebooks or trackers, as we trundle through the rain and the mud and towards the climax of the 2024 Flat season…
There’s also a bit on the latest Racing PodBlast episode from last weekend at the bottom of this post…
First though, here’s those Handicap Sleepers…
Weekly Handicap Sleeper Notes 27th, 28th & 29th September
.
๐๏ธ Friday 27th September
โญ 540 Haydock โ 7f Class 3 Handicap
๐ 4th – ENCOURAGEABLE
The 5yo was having his first run for 419-days here, and first run off a wind-op, and he made good headway around the 2f pole before, understandably, weakening out of things in the final furlong… heโs on a mark where he can be competitive off โ ran here off OR 82, 7lbs below his highest winning mark, and was dropped 1lb to OR 81 for this effort โ and itโs not hard to think heโll come on plenty for this run… heโs worth looking out for under the following… OR 89 or less | LH or Straight track | DSLR 60 or less = 01421 (2/5, 1p โ both career wins)… his previous turf win came on Soft ground so he should be fine with how the ground is right now, if the rain keeps on falling as it is…
๐๏ธย Saturday 28th September
โญ 130 Haydock โ 1m Class 2 Handicap
๐ 4th โ SPIRIT CATCHER
Now back on his last winning mark of OR 87 (and 7lb below his career high mark) but this was too high a class level for him and the ground was riding too far on the side of soft… heโs now 0/12, 3p at C2 level and for all this was a decent enough effort, he does perform much better at C3 level and below… Iโve got PC for him as… C3 or less | OR 87 or less | Good or Good to Soft = 1211 (3/4, 1p โ all 3 career wins)… he was dropped 2lbs to OR 85 for this run…
**
โญ 240 Haydock โ 6f Class 3 Handicap
๐ 10th – CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD
Well-beaten in this come the line but he just doesnโt seem to be a horse that likes carrying big weights… this run taking his record when carrying 9-07+ to 0/16, 3p… and as such itโs easy to excuse this effort. Heโs winless since October 2021 but he has posted a couple of big efforts this season and he could be ready to finally notch the fifth win of his career… I have the following plugged in as his PC… OR 91 or less | carrying 9-06 or less | straight 6f-6.5f | Good-G/S-Soft | June-Oct = 12353111 (4/8, 3p โ all 4 career wins)… 2 of his 4 wins have come in October and he ran here off a mark 5lbs below his last and highest winning mark (so is handicapped to be winning)…

โญ 320 Ripon โ 6f Class 2 Handicap
๐ 4th – BARADAR
The 6yo has been struggling this season from lofty marks, after been pumped to as high as OR 105 after winning two valuable Handicaps last summer/autumn… he ran here off OR 94 (dropped 1lb to OR 93 for this effort), a mark below BOTH of his winning marks from last season (OR 96 & OR 100), and as a result posted his best run of the season… his stall 10 draw wasnโt ideal as the track was favouring those drawn lower this day (the 3 ahead of him in this were drawn 4, 6 & 5) and the 6f trip was probably a bare minimum also, with 4 of his 5 wins coming over 7f and the other coming over 6.5f… given both those factors Iโd be happy to mark this run up a couple of pounds on the bare form and heโs worth looking out for under the following PC… OR 100 or less | 6.5f-7f | July-Nov = 7111811 (5/7 โ all 5 career wins)…
๐๏ธ Sunday 29th September
โญ 330 Epsom โ 1m4f Class 4 Handicap (Apprentices Derby)
๐ 2nd – ENOCHDHU
Handicapped to be winning right now off OR 72, 2lbs below his highest winning mark and 8lbs below his peak rating, but he always finds at least one better than him at C4 level+ (now 0/17, 4p at C4+ level), with all his wins coming at C5 or less (4/7 at those levels)… 2 of his 4 wins have come in the Sept-Oct period, so he generally runs well at this time of the year, and heโs worth looking out for under the following… OR 74 or less | C5 or less Hcps | DSLR 30 or less = 514111 (4/6 โ all 4 career wins)…
**
Shorthand explanations…
PC = Prime Conditions
DSLR = Days Since Last Run
OR = Official Rating
Hcps โ Handicaps
LTO โ Last Time Out
CPโs โ Cheek-Pieces
In other news…
Many thanks to those of you that took the time to message and tweet your thanks and congratulations after FLYING FINN romped home at Haydock on Saturday ๐ฅณ
Both Tony Mac and myself put Adrian Keatley’s 3yo up on the PodBlast in the opening handicap on Saturday’s Haydock card… and FLYING FINN duly obliged at the rather tasty SP of 18/1… and the even tastier BFSP of 37.70!! ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ
And very well done to the couple of you that said you landed on the forecast in the race thanks to the Pod… which paid a Forecast return of +63.33 and an Exacta return of +86.30 ๐๐๐
Lovely stuff ๐๐คฉ
And if you missed the Pod last week… or just want a reminder… here’s a quick snippet of Flying Finn…
