The 2011 NTF Xmas Quiz!

Ho Ho Ho! It’s that time of year again folks! The time for you all to get your thinking caps on in order to win some free bets courtesy of the good ship NTF (well Betdaq really but you know what I mean!).

That’s right it’s time for the second annual NTF XMAS QUIZ!

It’s important to keep those brain cells ticking and buzzing away in these sub-zero temps (it’s actually quite mild as I write this but anyway….). The racing takes a mini-break soon to allow the jockeys to get some Xmas shopping done so while they are out trudging round the shops get your brains in gear and get stuck into the 14 posers I have set for you.

The winner of the quiz (drawn at random) will receive a free £20 bet from the good people at Betdaq with the runner-up (also drawn at random) receiving a free £10 bet. The good news is this is open to new AND existing customers of the betting exchange so there really is no reason not to try your hand at the quiz. This may in fact be a good opportunity for those of you that are yet to dip your toes in the water at Betdaq; a nice little bit of free money to play around with and check out the exchange (providing you crack the NTF Quiz that is!).

The quiz rules are easy (and exactly the same as last years quiz for those of you that took part). I have set out 14 cryptic questions below and all you need to do is answer them. Then from each answer you need to collect a letter (you will be told what letter) so at the end you have 14 letters. From those 14 letters you then need to spell out a name. The name you need to use your letters to spell out is 1 of the following –

  • A famous racehorse
  • A famous trainer
  • A famous Jockey

To make it slightly harder I’m not telling you what one it is!!

Once you have your answer you then need to email me at ben@narrowing-the-field.co.uk with the subject header reading – NTF Xmas Quiz. In the email itself I need you to give me all 14 answers as well as the 14 letter name that you think is the answer. Simple!

I’ll give you a couple of example question from last years quiz –

Q1 – There are only 2 options on this Irish hotels functions menu? (3rd letter of answer)

A1 – BEEF OR SALMON (you would have taken the letter E from this answer)

Q2 – If you don’t have one of these when you pee then you should probably go and see the doctor! (Clue: Has won a Hennessy) (1st letter of answer)

A2 – STRONG FLOW (you would have taken the letter S from this answer)

OK with that? All clear? Excellent! Then lets begin the quiz proper.

p.s. All 14 answers are well(ish) known National Hunt racehorses from the past couple of seasons.

Q1 – How you might describe Chris Hoy when he isn’t very happy? (2nd letter of answer)

Q2 – He’s not English or Welsh but he does have mixed parentage? (1st letter of answer)

Q3 – If you went to see Ben Elton’s hit musical in London you could be classed as a bit of a …. … ……? (10th letter of answer)

Q4 – An excellent ‘Trooper’ to have on your side in a quagmire? (2nd letter of answer)

Q5 – This mare could be described as an ‘Electric Month’? (4th letter of answer)

Q6 – Has been ridden by ‘Bravo Golf’ on all of his career starts? (10th letter of answer)

Q7 – My pre-season treble on Aberdeen, Raith Rovers and Elgin City certainly was ……. ……..? (2nd letter of answer)

Q8 – Hiya Mate? (1st letter of answer)

Q9 – Does anyone fancy a ‘pursuit in the middle of the night’? (3rd letter of answer)

Q10 – This diagonally moving chess piece has gone a bit mental!! (13th letter of answer)

Q11 – The on-field leader of the Baggies? (7th letter of answer)

Q12 – Mr Redknapp just can’t sit still? (13th letter of answer)

Q13 – The younger of Prince Charles’ sons could easily be described as this? (13th letter of answer)

Q14 – On a clear night you should be able to see this hurdler in the sky (many times over)? (7th letter of answer)

Answers must be with me by midnight Sunday (or Xmas day to most of us!!) and the winner will be announced on either Monday (26th) or Tuesday (27th).

You need to supply me with all 14 answers as well as the main 14 letter word (horse, trainer or jockey) to be entered in to the hat to win one of the FREE BETDAQ bets.

So get cracking and best of luck to you all!

Remember answers need to be sent here –  ben@narrowing-the-field.co.uk
