2024 Royal Ascot Notes: 5 to follow…

Royal Ascot done and dusted for another year…

The usual rollercoaster five days at the coalface…

Enjoyable though… plenty of big fields to tuck into and when you get one of those right (or even half right and land in the places) then you are generally well rewarded…

Royal Ascot is also a great meeting to pick apart, once the dust has settled, and look for future profits…

I’ve just posted my ‘Royal Ascot Wrap‘ to full NTF members…

13-pages stuffed full of notes, angles, pointers and prime condition horses for members to profit from in the coming weeks and months…

Below are five horses from those notes… five horses that will hopefully pull in some tasty profits before this flat season is out…

Royal Ascot 2024: Five to follow

Tuesday 18th June

5.05 Ascot Stakes – Class 2 Handicap – 2m4f (4yo+)

3rdKYLE OF LOCHALSH

Came into this on an upward curve and there looks more still to come from the 4yo after this effort… I’d have Prime Conditions (PC) for him somewhere around the following… Hcps | NOT Heavy | TT Worn | DSLR 16-56 = 311131 (4/6, 2p – all 4 career wins)… I’d maybe have a small query about him staying 2m+ as all 4 of his wins have come over 1m6f & 1m5.5f, although I’m open, for now, on where the upper limits of his stamina may be…

Wednesday 19th June

3.45 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes – Group 2 – 1m (4yo+)

Race Note: played to the strengths of those up on the front or sitting just behind the pace/just off the pace… those that were held-up struggled to make an impact…

8thROYAL DRESS

Was a touch unlucky not to be winning at Epsom LTO (couldn’t get a run when needed) and I think the Good to Firm ground was probably against her here… now 0/6, 2p on Good & Good to Firm ground… she’s better than the bare finishing position of this effort as the race also didn’t suit those racing held up… she would be interesting if meeting the following conditions… G/S or softer | Apr-Aug = 3141316 (3/7, 3p – all 3 career wins)

Thursday 20th June

5.05 Britannia Stakes – Class 2 Handicap – Straight 1m (3yo)

Race Note: Middle to high draws were the call in this one, with the first TEN home all drawn 15+ and a whopping 15 of the first 16 home drawn in stalls 15+… middle stalls were preferred over high stalls (1st & 2nd ran in middle group and were 2.5L ahead of everything else at the line)…

I’ve an interesting angle to keep in mind for big-priced Britannia Runners on their next start that meet the following… 7f+ | C2 or less | Good or quicker (or AW) | DSLR 30 or less  | Ran in Britannia Stakes LTO AND started at an SP of 50/1+ = 18/72 | 25% S/R | +£184.79 – W&P 30/72 | 42% S/R …

11thVOLTERRA

Drawn in stall 3 and was the only runner in a single figure stall to finish in the first 17 places… he started as 13/2 joint-fav for this and was clearly fancied to run well, which he technically did as he was around 3.5L ahead of the next home from his group, so he won his side with ease but had no answers to those that were better drawn than him on the near side… he came into this off the back of a comfortable 2.8L win in a C3 at Newmarket, the form of that being boosted since, with the runner up winning next time out and then finishing 0.75L second in THIS race (from a better draw than Volterra, obviously)… he’s well worth keeping on the radar going forward and he should be more than capable of defying his current mark of OR 91…

Friday 21st June

5.40 King Edward VII Stakes – Group 2 – 1m4f (3yo)

8thHARPER’S FERRY

Was punching well above his weight on his first step out of novice/maiden company based on the official ratings, but he ran a huge race in this company and was still moving well as they turned for home, still disputing second at around the 2f pole before weakening back through the pack… he was only raised 5lbs to OR 93 for the run and that would be a very interesting mark for them to have a crack at something with in handicap company…

Saturday 22nd June

5.05 Wokingham Stakes – Class 2 handicap – 6f (3yo+)

2ndDARK TROOPER

I’d be marking up this effort from the 4yo plenty as the pace was definitely in the bottom half of the draw and he had precious little to aim at on the near side. The fact he got to within 0.5L of the winner, who had the perfect pace set up to attack, is extremely noteworthy and the 3lb rise to OR 105 for this run may not be enough to anchor him next time out… he seems to really enjoy Ascot… form of 2611 (2/4, 1p) at track (only beaten 1.6L in a G3 on the 6th place finish)… and he’d be of plenty interest if they find a suitable race for him back at Ascot…

Royal Ascot is always a great meeting to pick apart and pull future winners from, hopefully those five above, that I pulled from the full set of comprehensive notes NTF members received, will find their way to the winners enclosure in coming weeks…

There’s still a huge amount of the flat season to come and there’s still time to hook up to the main NTF service…

  1. Sonny Liston beaten a head off 111 in the Hunt Cup

I handicapped the race and I made that a 120 performance

I should think they will be looking for G2s over a mile

    • Absolutely… a mighty effort from Sonny Liston off 111… beaten by a completely unexposed and hugely progressive horse as well…

Think they maybe took a while to figure out Sonny Liston but his Royal Hunt Cup effort was one of the best performances of the week, definitely 👍

      • SBS said straight after the race that there’s a G3 over a mile he has in mind for Wild Iger, in July or August somewhere

I thought Wild Tiger would be an impressive winner but front running in a small group probably not conducive to big numbers

Sonny may well have put up a monster performance trying to give 13lb

I am hoping the yard are ambitious and go looking for big pots where I might get some big prices on Sonny

BTW HUGE CONGRATS on Khaadem. In the immortal words
of Sid Waddell there’s only one word for that MAGIC DARTS

        • I reckon it makes sense to roll the dice with Sonny Liston, try pick off some place money in the big races, likely go off at decent odds for us punters and if anything under performs he’s the type to be running his usual solid race and landing himself in the places… hopefully… only entry he’s got just now is the Sussex Stakes… so promising pointer there that the big races are on the radar for them…

As for Khaadem… some boy! One of those that has decided he fancies some Group 1’s on his CV now he’s in the back end of his career!! Superb performance by him to go back to back in the race 👏👏

          Cheers – Ben (NTF)

  2. Thanks Ben for the five to follow from Ascot your best mate Racing is a hobbie for me being in my 70s i like having a bet on your horses to follow many more winners from Bill.

    • Thanks Bill, much appreciated 😊

As a hobby I don’t think anything much beats racing… I’ve not found one yet anyway!!

      Keep well my friend

      Cheers – Ben (NTF)
